- I’m a sum up of musical, filmy, prankster, mischief, adventurous, fashionable, workaholic, party lover, jovial-jocular, addicted to friends and family, trained dancer, versatile actor, sensitive, non-political, gymaholic, creative, sometimes confused sometimes bold, fighter, most of the times organised, aspiring cook and list goes on!
Early life Born into a Hindu family, the youngest of three siblings, Singh was quite a bratty prankster since her childhood. Her mischievous nature always got her into trouble. Her father, Rajendra Singh Nirman, is an ex-cop. So strong was his passion and inclination towards music that immediately after his wedding to Singh’s mother Geeta Nirman he quit the police force and left for the shores of Mumbai all by himself to pursue his dreams of becoming a playback singer. By the time Singh was born, the family, which now included her eldest sibling Barkha Sharma and elder brother Nirmaan D, had moved from Delhi to the suburbs of Mumbai. In spite of all the hardships faced by the family to make ends meet her parents left no stone unturned to educate their three children and offer them a healthy childhood. Being from a musically-inclined family, Soni Singh’s father always wanted his three children to be part of the media industry. Singh did her schooling in Bangur Nagar Vidya Bhavan. Never the one to show a keen interest in studies, she always dreamt of becoming a choreographer. After dropping out on completing her higher secondary education (HSC), she immersed herself in formally learning Indian classical dance forms like Bharatnatyam and Kathak. Subsequently she bagged her first film ‘DUBAI RETURN’ as a choreographer and later went on to do a few music videos in this capacity. Around the same time, Zoom, one of India’s premier GECs launched its first dance reality show ‘Dance Diva’ with much fanfare. Singh’s moment of glory arrived when she went on to win this dance competition, thus gaining tremendous fame and recognition. The acting bug bit her when she started performing in short films and home music videos directed by her brother Nirmaan D, who had himself been working as an Assistant Director in TVCs directed by some of the top names in the ad film world. Egged by her brother after he saw tremendous potential in his younger sister during the making of these experimental films, with no formal training as an actress, Singh decided to take up acting as a profession.
Career After her initial stint as a choreographer, she started taking up small acting assignments on Doordarshan and graduated to working on television shows produced by some of the biggest production houses in the country in addition to doing a fair share of stage shows. She has played vicious, negative characters on television serials. Her claim to fame was portraying the character Jhumki Rani / Jhanvi Garodia in the well-known serial ‘Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann’, directed by Rajan Shahi. Though she is not averse to acting in films, her acting commitments on TV and lack of suitable roles have kept her away from the big screen. Singh also intends to invest more time in the coming months in her production house GEBASO Films, which she has been running in partnership with Nirmaan D. In addition, she has also been devoting herself to a charitable organisation, Prem Sadan Orphanage located in Madh Island since the last few years.
She is also a Contestant of BigBoss Season 8 in 2014
Personal life Soni Singh resides in the suburbs of Mumbai with her parents and brother. While she’s known to be a workaholic, when she does decide to let her hair down, she effortlessly transforms into a vivacious, lively party animal who is a thrill-seeker and has an adventurous streak to her. She shares a special bond with her brother, who she considers to be her best friend. Her elder sister Barkha Sharma is married to Hitesh Sharma, a respected television producer. In spite of being in an industry where actors are known to throw tantrums and be catty, Singh has stayed away from any kind of controversies and link-ups with co-stars. She’s been known to be quite a grounded and level-headed person, traits which she attributes to the values and ethics instilled in her by her parents since an early age.
